SIEM and SOC Modernization

Many security operations centres run on a SIEM that is expensive, slow, and full of noisy rules nobody trusts. SIEM and SOC modernization fixes the foundations: what data you collect and why, where it lives, how detections are written and tested, and how repetitive work is automated. WC1 helps Singapore and Philippine organisations migrate SIEMs, rebuild detection content, and design SOC processes that analysts can sustain.

The problem: why SIEM and SOC modernization matters

Legacy SIEMs ingest everything and alert on too much. Licensing based on data volume makes teams drop valuable logs to save money, while low-value logs keep flowing. Rules are copied from vendor packs and rarely tested, so analysts face hundreds of alerts a day and miss the real ones.

Manual enrichment, copy-paste ticketing, and ad hoc escalation consume analyst time. Leaders lack metrics that show whether the SOC is improving.

Who this service is for

Organisations running an in-house or hybrid SOC, teams migrating from on-premises SIEMs to cloud platforms, and security leaders who need to cut SIEM cost while improving detection.

What WC1 delivers

Every engagement is scoped to your environment and risk. These are the building blocks we combine for SIEM and SOC modernization:

  • Log source strategy: A use-case-driven log collection plan that prioritises high-value sources, sets retention by requirement, and uses tiered storage to control cost.
  • SIEM migration: Planning and execution of migration to a modern cloud SIEM, including parsers, content conversion, parallel running, and cutover.
  • Detection-as-code: Version-controlled detection rules with testing, peer review, and ATT&CK coverage mapping.
  • SOAR automation: Automated enrichment, triage, and containment playbooks for common alert types, with human approval where appropriate.
  • SOC process design: Tiering, shift hand-over, case management, escalation, and metrics such as mean time to acknowledge and resolve.
  • Threat hunting programme: Hypothesis-driven hunts based on intelligence, with findings converted into new detections.

How the engagement runs

1. Assess

Review current SIEM, log sources, rules, costs, and SOC processes. Benchmark against your threat model.

2. Design

Define target architecture, log strategy, detection backlog, and automation priorities.

3. Build and migrate

Stand up the platform, onboard sources, convert and rewrite content, and run in parallel.

4. Automate

Deliver SOAR playbooks for the highest-volume alert types and measure time saved.

5. Optimise

Tune detections, track metrics, and hand over documentation and training.

Commercial shape follows the work: a fixed-scope assessment or implementation when the problem is well bounded, or a retainer when you need ongoing operation, tuning, and reporting. Coverage hours, response times, and responsibilities are written into the statement of work so there are no surprises.

Deliverables you can expect

  • SIEM and SOC current-state assessment
  • Target architecture and log source strategy
  • Migrated and tested detection library in version control
  • SOAR playbooks for priority use cases
  • SOC process handbook and metrics dashboard
  • Threat hunting playbook and first hunt reports

Platforms and tools we integrate

We work with Microsoft Sentinel, Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSIAM and XSOAR, Splunk Enterprise Security and SOAR, Fortinet FortiSIEM and FortiSOAR, Google Security Operations, Elastic Security, and CrowdStrike Falcon Next-Gen SIEM, together with data pipeline tools such as Cribl for routing and cost control.

WC1 is vendor-neutral: we integrate the platforms you already own before recommending anything new. Naming a product here describes technology we work with; it does not imply a partnership, reseller agreement, or vendor certification.

Singapore: regulatory and market relevance

The MAS TRM Guidelines expect institutions to collect and analyse security logs, detect anomalies, and retain logs to support investigations. CSA’s Cybersecurity Code of Practice for CII includes logging and monitoring requirements, and IM8 sets logging and audit trail expectations for government systems. A modern SIEM with documented use cases makes these expectations demonstrable.

Philippines: regulatory and market relevance

BSP Circular 982 requires banks to maintain security monitoring and logging, and Circular 1140 addresses IT operations and incident management. NPC guidance expects logging of access to personal data. For Philippine government agencies, DICT initiatives are expanding security operations capacity, and well-designed SIEM content helps small teams cover more ground.

How this fits the rest of your security programme

SIEM and SOC Modernization rarely stands alone. It works best alongside Managed Detection and Response, XDR and Endpoint Security, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Incident Response Readiness. It also connects to our Intelligent Automation services. See the full catalogue on our Cybersecurity services page.

Frequently asked questions

Should we move to a cloud SIEM?

Often, yes, for scalability and faster content updates, but cost models differ widely. We model expected ingestion and retention before recommending a platform.

How do you reduce SIEM costs without losing visibility?

By collecting logs based on detection and compliance use cases, filtering low-value events before ingestion, and using cheaper storage tiers for long retention.

What is detection-as-code?

Managing detection rules like software: in version control, with tests, reviews, and automated deployment. It makes detections reliable and auditable.

Can SOAR replace analysts?

No. SOAR removes repetitive steps such as enrichment and ticket creation so analysts spend time on judgement. High-impact actions keep a human in the loop.

How long does a SIEM migration take?

It depends on log volume and content, but a phased migration with parallel running is standard, so there is no visibility gap during cutover.
