OT and IoT Security

Factories, utilities, buildings, ports, and hospitals increasingly run on connected operational technology (OT) and IoT devices. OT security protects these systems without disrupting the processes they control. WC1 helps operators in Singapore and the Philippines gain visibility of OT assets, reduce exposure, and monitor for threats using approaches that respect safety and uptime.

The problem: why OT and IoT security matters

OT networks were designed for reliability, not security. Many run legacy operating systems that cannot be patched, use insecure protocols, and have grown connections to IT networks and vendors for remote maintenance and data analytics.

IT security tools and practices, such as active scanning or aggressive patching, can disrupt industrial processes. As a result, OT often remains a blind spot, even as ransomware groups increasingly target manufacturers and critical infrastructure.

Who this service is for

Manufacturers, utilities, energy and water operators, logistics and port operators, building and facilities managers, healthcare facilities with connected medical devices, and CII owners in relevant sectors.

What WC1 delivers

Every engagement is scoped to your environment and risk. These are the building blocks we combine for OT and IoT security:

  • OT security assessment: Site-based assessment aligned to IEC 62443 and relevant national guidance, covering architecture, remote access, and procedures.
  • Passive asset discovery: Non-intrusive discovery of OT and IoT assets, communications, and vulnerabilities using passive network monitoring.
  • Segmentation and conduits: Zone and conduit design separating IT, OT, and safety systems, with industrial firewalls and a properly designed DMZ.
  • Secure remote access: Controlled, recorded, and time-bound vendor and engineer access replacing always-on remote connections.
  • OT threat monitoring: OT-aware detection integrated with your SOC, tuned to industrial protocols and normal process behaviour.
  • OT incident response planning: Playbooks that coordinate IT, OT engineering, safety, and management, including manual fallback procedures.

How the engagement runs

1. Engage

Agree safety constraints, change windows, and site contacts with operations and engineering teams.

2. Discover

Deploy passive monitoring, map assets and communications, and review architecture.

3. Assess

Identify risks against IEC 62443 and relevant regulations and prioritise practical mitigations.

4. Mitigate

Implement segmentation, remote access controls, and compensating controls during agreed windows.

5. Monitor and rehearse

Connect OT monitoring to your SOC and run an OT incident tabletop.

Commercial shape follows the work: a fixed-scope assessment or implementation when the problem is well bounded, or a retainer when you need ongoing operation, tuning, and reporting. Coverage hours, response times, and responsibilities are written into the statement of work so there are no surprises.

Deliverables you can expect

  • OT asset inventory and communications map
  • IEC 62443-aligned risk assessment
  • Zone and conduit segmentation design
  • Secure remote access architecture
  • OT monitoring integration and use cases
  • OT incident response playbook and tabletop report

Platforms and tools we integrate

We work with Palo Alto Networks industrial OT security, Fortinet’s OT security portfolio including ruggedised FortiGate firewalls, Microsoft Defender for IoT, Claroty, Nozomi Networks, Dragos, and Tenable OT Security, integrated with your SIEM and remote access tools. Cisco environments are covered too, including Cisco Cyber Vision.

WC1 is vendor-neutral: we integrate the platforms you already own before recommending anything new. Naming a product here describes technology we work with; it does not imply a partnership, reseller agreement, or vendor certification.

Singapore: regulatory and market relevance

Under the Cybersecurity Act, CII owners in sectors such as energy, water, aviation, maritime, land transport, and healthcare must comply with CSA’s Cybersecurity Code of Practice, which includes OT-specific requirements, and CSA publishes an OT Cybersecurity Masterplan and OT guidance. The 2024 amendments extend CSA’s oversight to additional systems and entities. Manufacturers supplying regulated sectors also face growing customer scrutiny.

Philippines: regulatory and market relevance

The DICT’s National Cybersecurity Plan identifies critical infrastructure sectors, including energy, water, transport, and health, as priorities for protection. Philippine manufacturers, economic zone locators, and utilities are increasingly asked by global customers and insurers to demonstrate OT security controls. Segmentation and secure remote access are the most common first steps.

How this fits the rest of your security programme

OT and IoT Security rarely stands alone. It works best alongside Network Security and Next-Generation Firewalls, Incident Response Readiness, Continuous Threat Exposure Management, SIEM and SOC Modernization. It also connects to our Systems Integration in Singapore services. See the full catalogue on our Cybersecurity services page.

Frequently asked questions

Will your assessment disrupt our production?

No. We use passive monitoring and agreed, low-risk validation methods, and schedule any changes within your maintenance windows with operations sign-off.

What if our OT systems cannot be patched?

That is common. We recommend compensating controls such as segmentation, application allowlisting, and monitoring, prioritised by risk.

What is IEC 62443?

A series of international standards for industrial automation and control system security, covering processes, system requirements, and component security. It is widely used as the reference for OT assessments.

Do we need a separate OT SOC?

Usually not. OT-aware monitoring can feed your existing SOC or MDR, with OT engineers in the escalation path.

Can you secure vendor remote access?

Yes. Replacing always-on vendor connections with controlled, recorded, time-bound access is often the highest-impact first step.
